The Society of Internationally Educated Nurses in North America (SIENNA) is proud to share an exciting milestone in our mission to empower internationally educated nurses (IENs). We have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Sigma Nursing, the world’s largest and most respected international honor society for nurses, to bring SIENNA members free access to the Nurse Learning Exchange.
This collaboration represents more than just an agreement between two organizations. It is a powerful step forward in expanding learning opportunities, fostering global networking, and advancing professional excellence among nurses across borders. As SIENNA continues to grow as a community and a voice for internationally educated nurses in the United States and Canada, this partnership with Sigma strengthens our ability to deliver meaningful benefits to our members.
Expanding Access to Quality Education
Education is at the core of SIENNA’s mission. Internationally educated nurses often face unique challenges as they adapt to new healthcare systems, licensing requirements, and workplace cultures. Access to high-quality, evidence-based continuing education can make a significant difference in their transition and long-term success.
Through the Nurse Learning Exchange, SIENNA members will be able to access up to 30 continuing education (CE) hours at no cost. These courses are designed to be practical, relevant, and globally informed, ensuring that participants can enhance their knowledge while meeting professional development requirements. From clinical updates to leadership skills, the curriculum supports nurses in staying current and confident in their practice.
The opportunity to earn 30 free CE hours is not just a cost-saving benefit, but also a pathway to professional empowerment. For many nurses, especially those balancing work, family, and adaptation to a new country, free access removes a significant barrier and encourages lifelong learning.
Strengthening Global Connections
SIENNA has always believed in the power of networks and community. Our members represent diverse backgrounds and bring rich perspectives from their countries of education. Partnering with Sigma Nursing reinforces our commitment to connecting internationally educated nurses with broader global nursing communities.
Sigma, as the largest international honor society for nurses, has a long history of fostering scholarship, leadership, and service. By linking SIENNA members with the Nurse Learning Exchange, we are opening doors to shared experiences and professional dialogue that extend beyond North America. This collaboration underscores the idea that nursing is truly a global profession and that excellence in care is enhanced when we learn from each other across cultures and borders.
How Members Can Access the Nurse Learning Exchange
SIENNA members can begin taking advantage of this opportunity right away. Registration is simple: visit the Nurse Learning Exchange at https://www.sigmanursing.org/nurse-learning-exchange, complete the enrollment process, and make sure to select SIENNA as your sponsoring organization.
This final step is important, as it ensures that SIENNA members are recognized and included in this exclusive benefit. Once registered, members will gain immediate access to the catalog of courses and can begin earning CE credits at their own pace.
A Step Forward for SIENNA’s Mission
This partnership with Sigma Nursing reflects SIENNA’s broader goals for 2025–2027: expanding membership benefits, deepening professional development opportunities, and elevating the voice of internationally educated nurses. It demonstrates what can be achieved when organizations come together with a shared vision of advancing nursing practice and education.
SIENNA’s mission has always been clear: to build a strong support system for internationally educated nurses in North America through education, advocacy, and inclusion. By providing free access to Sigma’s Nurse Learning Exchange, we are helping our members thrive as clinicians, leaders, and advocates for their communities.
Looking Ahead
As SIENNA continues to grow, this partnership with Sigma is just the beginning. We are committed to bringing more resources, collaborations, and opportunities that will uplift our members and highlight the invaluable contributions of internationally educated nurses to the healthcare systems of North America.
We invite all SIENNA members to take full advantage of this new benefit and encourage colleagues to join our community to access the learning exchange and other resources. Together, we can continue to build a stronger, more connected nursing community that celebrates diversity, fosters professional growth, and strengthens global health.
