FSIEN Fellowship: Advancing, Recognizing, and Celebrating IEN Excellence Worldwide

Updated: 5 days ago

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Barrington, NJ — September 12, 2025 — The Society of Internationally Educated Nurses in North America (SIENNA) is proud to announce the launch of the Fellowship of the Society of Internationally Educated Nurses (FSIEN)™. This fellowship serves as the premier recognition for internationally educated nurses (IENs) and their allies. FSIEN honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions in Leadership, Education, Advocacy, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice, and Scholarship (LEADS) to advance immigrant nurses across North America and beyond.

The Importance of IENs in Healthcare

IENs play a crucial role in the global healthcare workforce. However, their leadership and contributions are often undervalued. The FSIEN was created to formally recognize, credential, and elevate IEN excellence. This fellowship provides not only a credential but also a global platform for IENs to mentor, teach, advocate, and shape the future of healthcare leadership.

“Through FSIEN, IENs gain recognition as leaders, advocates, and scholars transforming healthcare worldwide,” said Dr. Paul Biluan, President of SIENNA. This statement encapsulates the essence of the fellowship and its impact on the nursing community.

Benefits of the FSIEN Fellowship

Successful applicants will earn the right to use the post-nominal title FSIEN. They will also receive public induction at SIENNA’s Annual Conference. Additionally, recipients will gain opportunities to serve as mentors, reviewers, and consultants for the integration and advancement of IENs globally.

The FSIEN Fellowship represents a significant step forward in recognizing the contributions of internationally educated nurses. By fostering an environment of support and advocacy, SIENNA aims to enhance the professional growth of IENs. This initiative not only uplifts individual nurses but also strengthens the healthcare system as a whole.
